SAN DIEGO
OLLIE SMITH SCHOLARSHIP
In July, the San Diego Regional Group has once again awarded
scholarships
to students in the Ford Asset Program at Cuyamaca College. The scholarship
fund was
established in memory of Ollie Smith, founder of the San Diego Regional
Group.
Applications were submitted by students in the Ford Asset Program to
the scholarship committee, consisting of Paula Pifer, Chairperson, Jim Harris,
Gil Buxton and Ed Hennig.
The Ollie Smith Scholarship awards were presented at the
August, 2003 General Meeting
to five Ford Asset Students. Nicholas Baldwin, Jill McCurdy and Bradley
Northup were
given $600 each and Oscar Ibarra and Shaun Sexton were given $500 each.
Since the scholarship fund was set up in 1996, The San Diego Early Ford
V8 Club
has distributed a total of $9,400 to 19 students in the Ford Asset Program.
Pat Garity, Ford Asset Instructor, gave a brief overview
of the Ford Asset Program
and what is required of the students. The current scholarship recipients
will
graduate from the Ford Asset Program in August 2004.
They are to be commended for their ambition to become FORD mechanics.
